This project took place in the Desert Hills area of North Phoenix, where we regraded the rear of a residential lot and installed weed fabric to prepare the surface for future use to reduce the amount of weeds the owner had to deal with. In this video, I walk through the actual job site and show how we handled uneven native soil and prepped the area properly.
What was done on this project
- Regraded uneven desert terrain
- Worked with native soil conditions
- Installed weed fabric for surface stability
- Prepped the area for decomposed granite (DG)
- Completed final grading and smoothing
Why proper grading matters
Grading isn’t just about making things look level—it directly affects how usable and stable your property is over time. Proper grading helps:
- Reduce uneven settling
- Improve surface drainage
- Create a solid base for gravel or DG
- Prevent ongoing maintenance issues
Desert Hills / North Phoenix soil conditions
Properties in Desert Hills and surrounding areas often have loose native soils that require careful grading and preparation. Handling these correctly is key to creating a surface that holds up over time.
